The FREE FOR ALL on Saturday 8th November at St John in the Fields Church was a great success!
Between 9 and 11 a.m., tons of items were dropped off at the church. Volunteers sorted everything into categories; women’s, men’s and children’s clothes, bedding, toys, household items, and more. The church café was open, serving teas, coffees, and cakes, and raising money for much-needed roof repairs.
By 11 a.m., a queue had formed and, once the doors opened, everyone poured into the hall to enjoy the fun of rummaging through all the items. The hall was full to bursting, and so many people went away happy with free treasures they had found.
The church remained open until 5 p.m. for collections, which helped reduce the amount left over. It was estimated that 80–90% of the tons of donated goods were taken. The remaining good-quality items were passed on to the British Heart Foundation and the Community Centre of Pendeen.
St Ives Town Council kindly came at the end of the day to collect the rubbish and take it to St Erth Recycling Centre and there was very little that ended up in landfill.
A huge thank you to all the St Ives community Foodshare volunteers who helped organise and run the event, to St John’s Church for hosting it, to St Ives Town Council for helping to promote it and removing the rubbish at the end and to everyone who brought in the things they no longer needed and took away things that hopefully they did need.
