St Ives Community Foodshare group served up a full Christmas roast dinner for 55 people which included mulled wine, drinks and dessert at St John in-the-Fields church on Friday 23rd December.
Those who attended were blown away by how magnificent it looked, like a medieval feast, with lots of candles, holly & ivy table decorations and surrounded by the splendour of the building. The church has many Christmas trees, with each tree decorated by different community groups in the town and the atmosphere throughout the meal was wonderful. Every chair had a brand new blanket that participants could take home with them and four plates had a surprise ‘Winner’ note under them and these lucky 4 got to take home a hamper.
The invite for this free meal went out to all, not just those in need and was mostly attended by people who regularly use the group’s various services and social events. The many volunteers who helped run the event also got to sit down and enjoy the meal together with everyone else & Kirsty Oxley, the main chef, did an amazing job of orchestrating that the heaped plates were served to all at the same time.
Big thanks to St John in-the-Fields Church who gave us full use of their beautiful space, our volunteers for all their hard work and to our funders, Volunteer Cornwall’s ‘Winter Warmth Hub’ project and The National Grids Electricity – Community Matters Fund
Thank you again to National Grid Electricity Distribution, the Community Matters Fund and Localgiving for assisting with funding.
