We are running a free Community meal every Friday at St John Hall. A warm, welcoming place to go with a hot, nutritious meal with vegan options too and hot drinks. The meal is sometimes followed by board games and card games and guests are also able to charge their phones while they are there.
The meals are ‘pay what you feel, donations or free’ and aren’t only for those who are battling financially but are also for people who would like to simply enjoy some company and a nutritious cooked meal.
The communal meals for up to 30 people started on Friday 14th October 2022, and aims to run every Friday until spring 2023 and are funded by Volunteer Cornwall’s ‘Winter Warmth Hub’ project .
The first three Fridays have been very successful and have run near to full capacity. Here are a couple of our reviews “Thank you so much for inviting me. My first day in St Ives, and I feel really, really welcome. What you’re doing is amazing, and I got very choked up and emotional during the meal, but I didn’t want to cry in front of everyone.” and “The food was delicious. It was set up really nicely, and it was like going to a restaurant. It made me feel really special. It’s lovely to have a meal cooked for me, because I don’t have the energy to cook.”
Volunteers are needed to help prepare the food, lay and decorate the tables, to sit down, chat & eat together with guests who come on their own and to clear up afterwards. Please get in touch if you’re interested in helping.
